Hook 'em Longhorns

Real Texas Longhorn Cattle...I didn't see Bevo. Pictures: https://photos.app.goo.gl/ XdnGgKSD4vJwVCGv8 Hello everyone! We were driving this past week to go door knocking somewhere that we had never been before, and on the way we drove past this huge ranch with a bunch of Longhorns. So that was cool to see a bunch of real Texas Longhorns, but the story doesn't end there. Im sure a lot of you know of the University of Texas Longhorns here in Austin. On Saturday night we had a member dinner at a very popular sit down Mexican restaurant. We were there at 5:30 on a Saturday which is when it would normally be crazy full of people, but NO ONE was there. We were sitting right next to the door and I literally never saw anyone else go out or come in the entire time we were there. I was wondering why when I realized, the longhorns were playing right then! You know how you hear those stories of missionaries in 3rd world countries that everything shuts down during the world cup, well that...

Texas Talkers

My Zone at Zone Conference First, here's the link to my photos:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/ XdnGgKSD4vJwVCGv8 What a week!! I have learned that there is people that the missionaries here call Texas Talkers. So many people here LOVE to talk. Especially about Jesus. We'll ask them a question relating to Jesus, and they'll start praising him telling us how much good stuff he has done for them, and then proceed to tell us their entire life story. It's awesome until we ask them about church and then they say they're not interested. Really friendly and spiritual people though! Fixing a members boat dock.  We put Shawn on date to be baptized December 13th!! Thank you all if you have been praying for him because those prayers have been answered, and keep praying for him!! There has been so many miracles we have seen with him. One of the coolest ones was when we were decided when to baptize him. He accepted the invite to be baptized but wasn't sure when he could becaus...

Thunderstruck

My District! Olá everyone!! I hope you are all doing amazing! This past week for me was very amazing, quite a bit happened. Somehow a lot of it had to do with thunder too. I finally got to experience a Texas thunderstorm and they are pretty cool. Since there's no mountains you can look and see lighting flashing for miles. Plus the thunder was shaking our apartment at some points! We also went and did service on Friday for veterans. We were cleaning up a park and the veterans started blasting "Thunderstruck" (by AC/DC) which made it really fun! Plus I never realized that song mentions Texas, so its even better now.  Another quick funny story that happened at service was while we were moving some planks of wood, there was a rattlesnake chilling underneath. It was hiding so me and this other elder picked up the wood and then saw it when it started rattling. So we backed off but then this retired Marine ran over and with one swift stroke of his shovel he cut its head off. So ...

The Tall Missionary

Image
My title today requires a little backstory. Some of my friends from the xc team will remember  this story. A couple years ago I helped run a little kids running camp with coach Jami. Somehow at the camp I became known as "tall guy" because that's what all the little kids would call me. I became quite popular not gonna brag. But then here on the mission we play volleyball with the youth every Saturday. Not very many youth have been coming but this past Saturday there was a ton of them there which was awesome! So of course I quickly became known as the "tall missionary" and everyone wanted me on their team. The entire time I was just getting flashbacks to those little kids calling me tall guy every time they called me tall missionary. So just a fun memory there!  I realized that I haven't really talked very much in my past emails about the missionary work here in Texas. To be honest it is going very slow. Most everyone here is very nice and willing to talk t...
