"I'm Mary Poppins y'all!" - Yondu - Guardians of the Galaxy 2

 Hey ya'll! Texas felt like Texas again this week mainly because it wasn't covered in ice. Anyway, we went to a Mary Poppins play last week that had a bunch of our youth in it so thats where my title comes from today if anyone was wondering. 


Lots happened this past week but Sunday yesterday was probably my favorite day! First, we had a pretty awesome elders quorum lesson where we learned from Elder Bednar that the basic truths of the gospel are all we need to know, and then we got hot dogs and root beer after the lesson which was sweet! Then after sacrament meeting the youth started their choir practice for ward conference next week, and me and Elder Christensen were about to leave when bishops wife asked us if we could join them! We said yes and Im so glad we did because they are singing the FSY medley which is probably my favorite song! Singing it at FSY with 500ish other youth i remember was one of the first major spiritual experiences of my life, so im grateful I get to sing it with the youth here. Next is my favorite part of the day, Jordan got the Aaronic Priesthood and was ordained a priest!!!!!!! It was so amazing to see him progress this far and see how it has blessed his life! Lastly, we went to a ward party last night and it was really nice to get to talk to so many ward members especially since I am probably getting transferred out of here next week! I love the ward here so its gonna be hard to leave! 

Quick highlights: 
- went to Einstein bagels, I forgot how good that place is! 
- called one lady that said that she would never join our cult that worshipped "John Smith." 🤨
- got $115 ties from a sweet old lady at the Ladies of Lake Travis service.
- exchanges with Elder Strong from Layton! We went to his area in North Austin and let me just say, missionary work outside of my area is so different, I learned a lot of good stuff!
- got free oatmeal creme pies from a gas station worker
- personal study and personal prayer are basically my favorite part of the day 
- learned that knocking doors during the Super Bowl does not work very well


Spiritual thought: 
Pretty amazing week for me! There was something I learned this week though. Missionary work is A LOT of ups and downs throughout the week, and even throughout the day. In one day I went from knocking doors for 2 hours with no success, to going to an awesome member dinner that made me so happy! So I was struggling a little bit with this and getting down on myself until I realized, hey, this is something that will happen to me for the rest of my life. Life is full of ups and downs, you have to learn to have a good attitude during both the good and the bad times. But of course, the ultimate joy comes from the atonement of Jesus Christ. Focus on that and it will help have a good attitude in all aspects of life!

  How's it going everyone!!! This week was so fun meeting everyone in my district! From the first class we all connected immediately and get along so well. Being in a district of 16 guys who all just graduated high schools feels like I'm really just back in high school hanging out with the boys. Being here for only 5 days so far just feels like I'm st FSY making a bunch of new friends! We love learning new portugeuse slang and our favorite one right now is muito bom. It literally just translates to very good and you do this snapping thing with your hand while your saying it! I also got made district leader on Thursday which really just adds a couple meetings per week for me and I have to lead a lot of the district council meetings, but other than that it's just really fun!   Bom dia everyone!!! I have now completed week two of the MTC! It was an awesome week  since I now know where everything is here and i'm just getting into the groove of everything here. My district is also still awesome and I'm also getting into the groove of being DL and remembering everything I'm supposed to be doing for that.  We still love to go play volleyball every morning at 6:40 and the basketball gym reopened this week so we started doing that as well. We love challenging other districts in both games and are still undefeated. All the guys in my district are like 5'10'' or taller, all except for Elder Morris who is like 5'6'' but hes one of the funniest guys. He's buff and we buzzed his head on Friday night, and he just says the most out of pocket funny things all the time! Plus, in portugeuse the r makes the h sound so we call him mo-hees. "This ain't my first rodeo!"

Sunset in Texas! First week in Texas and in the mission field is now complete! And I take back my earlier statement, it has felt like my first rodeo. But in a good way! It is quite different than the MTC and there is so many things I am trying to learn right now. I got a great trainer though and what are the odds he is also from Kaysville and went to Davis high! If any of you back home knew Clint Sanders he is now my trainer and he is awesome.  I do have a good story from my travels getting here that quite literally felt like riding a bull in a rodeo. So to put it simply my original flight here had an engine fail 30 min into our flight!! Everything was going smoothly until all of the sudden the plane felt like it slightly dropped and then it felt like turbulence on steroids! The captian came over the intercom and I only remember him saying "Stay calm, we have engine failure, fasten your seatbelts we are heading back to SLC!" So we went back to SLC and they got us another flig...
